I'm a lecturer at Coventry University. I read, listen to great music, but make terrible music and write code. Right now I'm also decorating my house - I'm getting through a tub of filler a week.
This is a nice, short, easily understood article about Carmack's voodo sqrt function in the Q3 engine.
Worth a read even if it's just to pinch the magic number.
